Junior Team Golf Home Nations Championship

Return

Background

2012 is the eighteenth year of the Home Nations Junior Team Golf Championships.

In 2001 the format was enhanced to identify the Junior Team Champions of England, Ireland Scotland and Wales and then bring these four club teams together for the Home Nations Junior Team Golf Championships (the Championship). Prior to that date it was a two team final with there being no recognition of standing within a home nation country. Over 1,300 clubs with 650,000 members (i.e. in excess of 50% of UK golf clubs) compete in the Championship. 15,000 junior (18 and under boys and girls) participate in some 100 junior leagues or similar competitions throughout Great Britain and Ireland, throughout the year to determine qualification for regional finals and therefore, national finals of England, Scotland or Ireland, as appropriate, plus directly to the Wales National final. All of these National finals, except for Ireland, are staged in October.

Twelve English regional finals will be staged in late September/early October 2012. These will qualify clubs for a twelve/fifteen team final in mid October at the Crowne Plaza Resort, Colchester. Two Scottish regional, North and South, finals will be staged in mid September at Downfield and another Open qualifying course. Two teams from each of these will contest cross over finals in mid October at Carnoustie. Winners and runners up in individual Welsh competitions qualify directly for the National final. Winners of the four provincial competitions in Ireland will qualify for semi-finals and then the Fred Daly Trophy Final in late August.

The Home Nations Championship Final features the four national champions and four national runners up playing a round robin competition on five consecutive days overseas. The format is medal match play over 18 holes.
